Brad Sears

Senior Academy Coach

Brad’s soccer journey began in St. John’s, NL, where he played competitively for over 15 years before an injury shifted his focus from the field to officiating and coaching.

As a referee, he quickly rose through the ranks, working across three provinces, nine university seasons, twenty senior provincial championships, five Canada Soccer national championships, and multiple international tournaments — including the U-18 final at the Dallas Cup. His dedication earned him a place on the Alberta Soccer Referee Honour Roll.

Brad’s coaching career began in 2000 with the St. John’s Storm Women’s Team, which he led for four seasons before relocating to Calgary to focus on his professional career. In 2019, inspired by his daughter’s passion for the game, Brad returned to soccer through coaching and player development. During this time, he served as a Technical Coach with Fundación Real Madrid CF while also coaching with Airdrie FC for six seasons at the competitive level.

In Spring 2024, Brad joined New Frontier Soccer Club, where he has coached grassroots players as well as competitive male and female teams, guiding several squads to strong results early in his tenure. Alongside his club work, Brad has fully committed to Canada Soccer’s Advanced Coach Education Program, earning his National Children’s Diploma in 2022 and his CONCACAF National “B” Diploma in 2024 as part of Canada Soccer’s inaugural graduating class.

Brad’s philosophy is rooted in transformational coaching — developing people before players and fostering resilience, empathy, and character that extend beyond the game. He defines success not by trophies, but by shaping confident, compassionate leaders who thrive on the field and in their communities
