Al Fernandes

Senior Academy Coach

Al Fernandes brings more than 25 years of coaching and technical leadership experience to New Frontier Soccer, with a career spanning the college, amateur, academy and high-performance youth game in Alberta.

Al’s playing career included captaining Mount Royal College to a CCAA National Championship in 1994 before going on to play at Lethbridge College, where he helped the team earn an ACAC bronze medal in 1996. He later spent a decade with Lethbridge Croatia in the Alberta Major Soccer League (AMSL), serving as both a player and coach from 1998 to 2008.

His transition into coaching saw him spend 10 years as Head Coach at Lethbridge College from 1999 to 2009, followed by a long-standing role with Lethbridge Football Club as a coach and technical advisor. Al later held technical leadership roles with both FC Metro and Calgary Foothills Soccer Club, spending eight years with Foothills in a variety of positions across the club’s player pathway, including Generation/Senior Phase Manager.

Al continued his involvement in the post-secondary game as an Assistant Coach with the SAIT Men’s Soccer Program in 2024. Most recently, he served as Director of Coaching at MUSC, where his responsibilities included leading the 2010 Boys APDL team and managing the club’s men’s program.

We’re excited to welcome Al to New Frontier. His experience as a player, combined with his extensive youth and post-secondary coaching background, brings another level of knowledge and experience to our high-performance environment and player pathway.
